On a chilly winter night, after stepping outside with your parents and looking up toward the southern sky, you will instantly spot a super bright star twinkling with dazzling white light. It has a very fierce name: 'Sirius' (The Wolf Star). Sirius is the brightest star we can see in the entire night sky! The reason it looks so dazzling is partly because it's relatively close to our Earth, and partly because it is actually a super massive, extremely hot ball of fire itself. Interestingly, Sirius is actually playing a game of hide-and-seek in space as a 'binary star system'—it has a tiny, dim companion sister star hiding right next to it. Long ago, ancient Egyptians relied on watching Sirius appear in the early morning to accurately predict the flooding of the Nile River!
