Although its name sounds sparkling and pretty, Venus has a terrifyingly fierce temper! It is wrapped in a thick atmosphere of carbon dioxide and huge clouds of sulfuric acid, acting just like a super greenhouse that traps heat tightly. This makes its surface temperature soar to over 400 degrees Celsius, which is even hotter than Mercury, the closest planet to the sun! The coolest part is that Venus spins in the exact opposite direction of Earth—if you stood on Venus, you'd be amazed to find the Sun actually rises in the west and sets in the east! Soviet and American space probes once bravely landed on its surface and captured highly precious photos of its volcanoes.
